The 12/2P is a 12 gauge 2 conductor stranded plenum multi-conductor cable designed for security and low power applications. This 12-2 plenum cable features bare copper stranded conductors, color-coded conductors, and a white plenum rated (CMP) jacket.
This 12-2 plenum cable is certified for installations where cables are installed in a plenum open air plenum ceiling. The plenum rating (CMP) means that the jacket is made with a special compound that will stop dangerous toxins from entering the air circulation system in the case of a fire and the cable is burned. The plenum rated jacket will also cause the cable to burn slowly. It is important to always follow your local building codes when installing low voltage multi-conductor cables throughout the walls and ceilings of a home or business.
This 12-2 plenum cable is ideal for access control, remote control, signaling, security systems, communications, surveillance, intercom/PA systems, sound/audio, and nurse call installations in newer high rise commercial buildings.

12-2 Stranded Plenum Multi-Conductor Cable - FAQs
Why would anyone need to use a 12 gauge plenum cable?
A 12 gauge cable is commonly used in applications where there are longer than normal cable runs. When you have long runs there is often signal loss or voltage drop. One way to combat signal degradation is to use a thicker gauge cable. A thicker gauge wire means a bigger pipe and more surface area for signals to travel. So the 12 gauge cable will allow you to send your signals longer distances.
Does my 12-2 cable need to be plenum rated?
It all depends on where you are installing the cable. If the cable is being installed in a plenum ceiling then yes your cable must be plenum or CMP rated. If you are unsure about the environment you are installing your cable in then it is important to check with your local building codes. Not following your local building code could be a costly and dangerous mistake.
Will this 12-2 cable come in a box or on a spool?
It is available on a spool only. This is a heavy thick cable. No box would support it. Most heavy gauge wires will come on a spool because the boxes would just get destroyed.
Are the conductors on this 12-2 security cable color-coded?
Yes they are color coded Red and Black to assist you in identification.
