Choose The Right Alarm Contacts To Support Your Alarm System Installation!
When most people think of alarm system, they think of sensors, keypads and strobe lights, but they don't often think of one of the most important aspects of the system - the door contacts that allow the system to know if a door has been opened and therefore trigger an alarm. While these might only seem like a small aspect of the system, they are in fact quite complex and there are a number of different ways to go about their installation, many of which are detailed below...

Perhaps the most effective type of door contacts are the embedded door contacts which, as the name suggests, are embedded inside a door and are therefore not visible. Not only does this ensure that they are a lot neater and don't affect how the door looks, but they are also invisible to any thief and therefore they won't be aware of the system until it is too late for them. They are also the type of door contact that are the most robust, as they are unable to fall off or slip, therefore meaning that they are great for maintaining the integrity of your security system. The only down sides to embedded door contacts is that they are quite tough to install and equally tough to replace, should one of them stop working. Embedded and surface mount alarm contacts are equally easy to connect to the alarm wire that is ran through-out the home or business.
Adhesive door contacts are an extremely popular choice nowadays, mainly due to the fact that they are cheap and that they are also incredibly easy to install. In fact, all that one needs to do is peel of the tape from the back and stick it wherever desired - a process that takes all of five minutes to complete! There are some issues with these though, not least the fact that they are not very durable, therefore meaning that they will need replacing more than embedded door contacts. They could also slip and cause the system to not work as well as it could.
A more secure alternative to adhesive door contacts - but a cheaper alternative to embedded door contacts - is the variety that comes with an option to screw them into the door or frame. Obviously these are a bit bulkier than the adhesive version, but they are going to stay in place for a very long time and therefore they will not need to be replaced and they won't slide around over time. In fact, they also usually have an adhesive back, just in case one of the screws does come loose at some point, therefore providing double protection.
Just by looking at these three different door contacts it is clear to see that this element of a security system is one that should not be overlooked or put to one side - it is a vital element that will affect the quality of your security system in a massive way. So, speak to a professional either online or in a store and decide which one of these will be best for your home - it could be one of the most important security decisions that you make!
