The ICMPP0245E is meant to be rack mounted on any type of standard 19’ stand-alone equipment rack, wall mount rack, or equipment cabinet. If you are doing any space planning for your rack then it is important to know that the ICMPP0245E will take up one complete rack mount space.
Can I mount the ICMPP0245E right on a flat surface like on a wall?
No. The reason for this is that you need room to get behind it in order to punch you’re your Cat5e cables. The back of the ICMPP0245E has color coded 110 IDC terminations blocks for you to easily punch down and connect your Cat5e cables to the panel. A network equipment rack will give you the spacing you need to not only punch down your cables but also dress them so your work is neat and organized. It is important to have access to the back of our patch panel so you can easily perform any moves, additions, or changes to your network.
What punch down tool do I need to terminate cables on the ICMPP0245E?
You will need a standard 110 punch down tool with a 110 type blade.
How do I attach cables to the front of the ICMPP0245E Patch Panel?
The front of the ICMPP0245E patch panel has 24 female Cat5e RJ45 ports that allow you to simply plug in Cat5e patch cables or any other terminated Cat5e cables. The bottom line is that your cables need to have Cat5e modular connectors on them to attach to the front of the panel. The front of this panel supports a complete plug and play installation of cables!
Can I use Cat 6 cable with the ICMPP0245E Patch Panel?
No. It is only made to support an all Cat5e network. Using Cat 6 cable would not help your network since your network will only be as fast as your weakest link. If you need a Cat 6 24 port patch panel use the ICC ICMPP02460.
